probably a bit of …
probably a bit of both really, there is obviously more traffic compared to when this was filmed but I would suggest it was new when he was riding on it and it hasn’t been replaced since with only silly repairs. Weird to see my local area though all those years ago for me

The Bm’s would be …
The Bm’s would be the twin shock BMW R80RT, one of the newer models that replaced the 750′s and 800′s with the Avon fairing. Date wise I would think 1980, I will check with the Police Officer who did the riding.

My dad was doing a …
My dad was doing a commentry like this today in the car. He was making me laugh. The amount of information he spotted and the speed he was saying it was very fast. I think every driver should have a go, it’s a lot of fun and your friends can point if you missed anything or vica verca(which you shouldn’t or you should not be on the road). The only trouble is you can’t say all the hazzards as quickly as you can think and identify them. Everyone be aware of everything around you and your be safer.

I see what you mean …
I see what you mean.

But maybe in some countries, such as Netherlands, the car drivers are pretty careful and drive in a predictable manner, but in others, such as Romania, many of them like to play with the the rules and give you a hard time on the road. Ride here and you won’t need roller coasters for adrenaline ever again. :P

Well, on a motorcycle you have the closest thing to flying. :P

Those who have never been on a bike don’t realize that there are many more control and balance variables that have to be taken into account when riding two wheels.

Cheers!

Thanks for the comment. The’mirror’ device is the rear view of day riding lights that were fitted in the early 80′s. The BMW were not that good with charging the electrics at low speed, so we tried these day running lights. They did work… If you look at the beginning of the clip you can see them better.

Hi there, ive just …
Hi there, ive just come across these videos this evening. A great selection. My dad is a Class 1 and taught met to ride. He’s always talked about Road Craft training that he did. These vids are really helpful.
I notice a small mirror in the middle of your dash, is that a dedicated motorbike accessory or something you’ve made? Does it help much?

Thanks A lot,

ill keep checking back for more vids.

This commentary …
This commentary style is still amazing even today, however I can see why they outphased the use of the horn as in the second instance it was used in this video, it left nothing but “thinking time” available to any potential recipient it was aimed at and served no real useful defensive purpose at all. By the time the horn was heard, he would have been round the bend and on top of what ever hazard the horns use was intending to avoid.

Still, as I said before, excellent commentary!

Hehe cool. On the horn point, it was an explicit part of the old version of the system of motorcycle control.
