All-new for the CVO family is the two-bikes-in-one Softail Convertible. Replacing the CVO Softail Springer of 2009, the FL-based Convertible is built to offer both cruising good looks as well as comfortable light-touring abilities with a set of detachable creature comforts. The detachable kit includes a compact fairing with color-matched paint and smoke windscreen, leather-covered saddlebags with buffalo-hide inserts, and a leather passenger pillion and backrest, both with matching buffalo-hide inserts. All parts are quickly removable without tools to transform the Convertible from a touring bike into a stripped down boulevard cruiser.

The top of the luxury-touring segment has been ruled by an unlikely trinity comprised of Bavarian, Japanese and American manufacturers. While the Gold Wing , with its horizontally-opposed six, has long been the standard, BMW’s sharp K1200LT, with its Inline Four, has also developed a devout following, especially in the European market. For the longest time this left one marque with the distinction of being the only American V-Twin alternative. Harley-Davidson long stood unopposed in the V-Twin luxo-touring niche with its Ultra Classic models. Then Victory shook things up last June with the release of its Vision Tour, also powered by a big bore American-made V-Twin. And so the competition for bagger buyers with the biggest bucks is now even more cutthroat.

Motorcycle riding in Canada: Virtual Riding TV’s second test ride with the Sony HXR-MC1 Digital HD Camera Video Recorder. This footage was shot while riding from Hope to Princeton British Columbia, Canada. The Hope Slide is featured near the end of the video. On January 9,1965, an enormous landslide of 46 million cubic meters of earth, rock and snow, crashed down in seconds from a 2000 meter mountain near Hope, British Columbia. The full story can be read from the signage.
